New Peugeot 2008 Crossover Launch this Summer

Peugeot has revealed further details of its new 2008 Crossover, first seen in

concept guise last September at the Paris Motor Show. Compact and with a

striking style the 2008 Crossover is firmly based on the newly launched

Peugeot 208, Irish Small Car of the Year 2013. Due for launch in Ireland this

summer, Peugeot expects the 2008 to attract new customers to the brand

around the world.

Peugeot has had proven success in the compact car segment, with sales of

more than 15 million ‘2’ series vehicles. The marque is also noted for its

success in the Crossover segment; the Peugeot 3008 was crowned Irish Car

of the Year 2010. Wishing to merge these two fields of excellence into one

new vehicle, Peugeot has developed the 2008 Concept. At just 4.16 metres

long, the 2008 combines the driving characteristics of a hatchback with the

strengths of an SUV to allow space, modularity and comfort. Equally at ease

in town as on the open road, the 2008 will suit a diverse spectrum of

With its high driving position, pronounced wheel arches and LED daytime

running lights, the 2008 has an appealing road presence and stance. The

front face adopts the latest Peugeot style codes and generous glazed

surfaces, including an optional panoramic roof, promise a spacious interior.

Inspired by the double-bubble of the desirable RCZ, the 2008 roofline enjoys

optimised aerodynamics and the integrated spoiler, extended over the top of

the tailgate and roof bars complete the sporty look. The boot offers a low

loading sill for ease of access.

The latest-generation engines matched to the use of light materials and a

profiled silhouette will ensure a true breakthrough in terms of fuel economy.

Fitted with the latest generation e-HDi Diesel and new 3-cylinder petrol

engines, the 2008 urban crossover will stand out from the competition with

CO2 emissions starting from just 99g/km.

2008 is the first vehicle produced by Peugeot that has been designed and

developed jointly by several international markets. Engineers and stylists

from Paris, Shanghai, China and Sao Paulo, Latin America worked together

to create the vehicle. It will go into production in 2013, first in France

(Mulhouse) then in China (Wuhan) and later in Brazil (Porto Real).

Maxime Picat, Director General of Peugeot said, "In the 2008, the Marque

has the vehicle that will secure its leadership in the segment in Europe and

which will win new customers in Asia and Latin America."

The new 2008 will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in

March. Prices and equipment levels for the Irish market will be announced

closer to launch.
