Peugeot Produces 300,000th Unit of Award-Winning 208

Peugeot has produced the 300,000th unit of its award-winning new 208, just

one year after production commenced. The 300,000th vehicle came from

the PSA Peugeot Citroën production plant at Poissy.

Peugeot started building its new city car at the Poissy plant in January 2012.

At the sales launch of the Peugeot 208 in March 2012, Peugeot clearly

declared its objective of winning back European leadership of the B segment,

the most contested in Europe. Less than a year later, the 208 is very much in

line with Peugeot’s sales objectives: 221,000 units were sold in 2012 and it

took 1st place in the B segment in Europe in December, ahead of Ford Fiesta,

Renault Clio and VW Polo.

This success has been confirmed in several countries: the Peugeot 208 was

in 1st place in the city car segment in France in December 2012 and in

January 2013. At the end of December 2012, 208 was also 1st in Spain and

in Portugal and 2nd in Holland. In Ireland, the Peugeot 208 is the fourth

biggest seller in its segment, holding 8.44% share of its category.

The 208 has already been distinguished by numerous awards across Europe,

in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and Croatia and in Ireland it was

crowned Irish Small Car of the Year 2013. It is now a finalist for the

European title of Car of the Year 2013 and World Car of the Year.

The occasion of the 300,000th production unit was celebrated when Gaëlle

Monteiller, Director of the Poissy site, and Marc Giulioli, Marketing Director

at Peugeot France handed the keys to its owner, from Toulouse, France.

The launch of the new 208 will be followed by the arrival of the muchawaited

hot hatch 208 GTi and the superb, compact 2008 Crossover, this
